The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is expected to go to Congress before the close of this month for members' endorsement of the final draft of the new football statutes.

Once endorsed, the new statutes would be sent to the world football authority, FIFA, for approval.

The exercise will then pave way for the long-awaited elections for the incoming Executive Committee of the GFA, which will replace both the existing Management Board and the Executive Council, and take full authority over Ghana football administration.

Sources close to Congress revealed to The Chronicle that a timetable set for the elections is also awaiting the approval of members of Ghana football's highest decision-making body.

Ahead of the polls, however, intense rivalry has engulfed the rank and file of the Electoral College, with behind-the-scenes crunch tackles, although nominations for the various positions, including the presidency of the Executive Committee, are yet to be opened.

Prospective names for the top post have emerged, but only from the grapevine, except for that of Mr. George Amoako, Chief Executive Officer of Kumasi King Faisal, who has openly declared his interest in the job.

Other names featuring prominently as gunning for the top job have, however, kept their cards close to their chest, preferring to hold on a little longer until further notice.

Irrespective of what the contest achieves, it will only satisfy one interest: entrust the future of Ghana football, no matter how temporarily it might turn out to be, in the hands of someone whose actions and inactions will impact on the progress and development of the local game.

It is for this reason that this column will from Monday, the 7th of November, begin an in-depth exclusive analysis of the names making the rounds for the job.

The analysis will also zero in on the personalities behind the names, their full profiles, as well as how close associates see them.

The trip down this lane would touch also on the various issues that make each prospective candidate unique, digging deep into the archives of their records, including their strengths, and weaknesses that have characterized their occupation of any position of trust.

Meanwhile, the committee tasked to review certain provisions of the GHALCA constitution to conform to the new GFA status, has extended invitation for memoranda from the general membership of GHALCA, to ensure that quality work was done, as well as completing the work ahead of or within schedule.

A statement signed by the acting administrative manager of GHALCA, Miss Joyce Asante-Amoah, to that effect, indicated that the committee meets every Tuesday and Thursday, between the hours of 1.00pm and 2.00pm and urged GHALCA members to forward their memoranda to the GHALCA secretariat before November 11 2005.

The statement added "the committee had by consensus approved the following designation; Mr. Jeofrey Oteng Arthur as Chairman, Mr. Kwame Amoah Bossompem, Vice Chairman, Mr. Ashford Tettey Oku, Secretary, Messrs Kwame Ntow Fiako and Kofi Manu are other members."
