Cote d'Ivoire win SOS World Cup

Accra, May 28, GNA-Cote d'Ivoire, represented by Friendship Keep fit Club defeated Germany 7-6 on penalties to win the maiden SOS Ghana World Cup Tournament held at the Liberty Sports Stadium at Dansoman in Accra on Saturday.

On their way to the finals, Germany, who were represented by Down Town Keep Fit Club beat Brazil who were represented by Metro TV 1-0, while Cote d'Ivoire edged out Ghana who were represented by Liberty Oldies 2-1.

The event dubbed: "Watch the World Cup Before It Happens" was an SOS Ghana and Federation of International Football (FIFA) fund raising partnership.

Other countries that, took part in the competition are Togo, represented by Duncans keep Fit Club, USA, represented by Radio Gold, Japan, represented by Ghana Immigration Service and England, represented by All Banks Football Team. It was sponsored by State Insurance Company of Ghana Limited, Fan Milk Limited, Fidelity Discount House, Ecobank Ghana Limited and Hords Limited.

Mr. Kojo Mattah, Director of SOS Ghana said the event was

organised to whip up enthusiasm for the World Cup. It was also aimed at inculcating among the people to love one another. 28 May 06
