Confident Black Stars arrive in Cairo

The Black Stars of Ghana have arrived in the Egyptian capital Cairo amid tight security.

A 35 man contingent made up of players, officials and security personnel touched down at 2 am local time and were immediately escorted to their hotel.

Ghana's Ambassador to Egypt H.E. Said Sinare welcomed the squad and assured them that their safety would be top priority adding that the Egyptian authorities had put in measures to forestall any breaches in security.

Meanwhile, FIFA has appointed Doué Noumandiez Desiré as the centre referee ahead of the 2nd leg FIFA 2014 World Cup qualifying play-off on November 19 .

The 43-year-old Ivorian will be assisted by his compatriot Songuifolo Yeo (Assistant Referee 1), Burundian Jean-Claude Birumushahu (Assistant Referee 2) – the same trio officiated the Ghana-Mali AFCON 2013 group game in January.

The highly rated 2011 CAF Referee of the Year who became an international referee in 2004 is a pharmacist by profession and is one of few African referees on FIFA’s provisional list of 52 for the 2014 World Cup.

Ghana lead the tie 6-1 after the first leg in Kumasi and unless they succumb to a 5-0 defeat on Tuesday night,they would qualify to Brazil 2014; their third consecutive appearance at the global soccer fiesta.
