Clubs call emergency meeting over GFA goof

Ghalca, the body representing all football clubs in Ghana, has called an emergency meeting for today to consider its action over Ghana's exclusion from the newly introduced Africa Nations Championships.

The clubs are furious over the country's absence at the tournament which is meant for only local-based players which provides the clubs and players the chance to showcase their talents to the world.

The Ghana Football Association led by Kwasi Nyantakyi has been blamed by many over the local Black Stars' exclusion saying the GFA failed to register the country for the tournament.

Ghalca is the only institution in the country whose members can precipitate the sacking of the GFA and that option is on the cards for Tuesday's emergency meeting.

Ghalca wrote a letter to the GFA on Monday demanding an explanation over Ghana's exclusion before it decides on the next line of action.

The clubs also asked the GFA to furnish them with all the letters and details of the communication it had with Caf, Africa's governing body, over the issue.

Ghalca is likely to call for the dismissal of the GFA members if they are found guilty of not entering the country for the tournament.

Ghana's absence is a huge blow to clubs and players as the main Black Stars team has been dominated by foreign-based players.

Meanwhile, there is a growing disquiet in government quarters over the issue as it is seen a humiliating disgrace for a country which hosted the main African Cup of Nations just last month.

The sponsors of the national team are reported to be unhappy over the country's absence as they have been denied the opportunity market their products and their association with the Black Stars.

Fans are also calling for a full investigation into the issue for the culprits to be brought to book saying Ghana's absence is a blow to the future of the main Black Stars.
