Chokri Banned, GFA Fined & Hearts Banned

The 2000 CAF champions league final: disciplinary sanctions (11.2.2001)

The bureau of CAF inter-clubs organising committee, in its meeting of 10th February in Accra, examined the reports and viewed the various tapes of the 2000 CAF Champions league second leg final match between Hearts of Oak (GHA) and Esperance (TUN) and decided:

1. To impose a fine of 3000 US$ upon Ghana FA for the bad organisation of the match.

2. To ban Hearts of Oak of Ghana from playing in Accra stadium for one year from any CAF inter-clubs competition, the ban starting from 17 December 2000.

3. To suspend the Esperance goalkeeper, Chokri El Ouaer for one year from CAF inter-clubs competitions for injuring himself in an effort to have the match stopped. El Ouaer can be replaced by another goalkeeper on Esperance’s list for 2001 clubs competitions before 20th February 2001.

4. To suspend the Tunisian referee Mourad Daami for one year from all CAF competitions for his interference around the field of play and for trying to influence the referee of the match to stop the game. He will also be removed from the list of African referees who are candidate to officiate in the 2002 FIFA World Cup.

5. To impose a fine of 5000 US$ on Esperance club for refusing to receive their medals after the end of the match. A letter of reprimand will also be sent to the President of the Tunisian FA for his interference on the filed of play trying to stop the match.

6. To suspend the Tunisian player Waleed Azzaiez 4 matches for his violence and bad attitude during the match.
