Chiefs meet Kotoko in final

Rustenburg - Kaizer Chiefs and Asante Kotoko of Ghana reached the final of a pre-season Challenge tournament after semifinal wins at Phokeng on Saturday.
The event features the four sides involved in recent soccer disasters on the African continent.

Chiefs beat African champions Hearts of Oak from Ghana 2-0 in their first semifinal before Kotoko eliminated Orlando Pirates 4-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw.

The traditional tournament hosted by Chiefs and Pirates this year invited the Ghanaian pair to compete in a gesture aimed at "healing" after recent disasters at stadiums in both countries, officials said.

A total of 43 people died in a stadium crush in Johannesburg in April when Chiefs met Pirates in a South Africa league match. Just weeks later 126 people were killed in a stampede at the end of a Ghanaian league game between Hearts and Kotoko in Accra.

The Chiefs v Kotoko final is in Durban next weekend.

The four sides are planning a similar event in Ghana later this year to raise funds for the families of the victims of disaster in Accra.
