Chelsea hitman Latif eyeing CHAN glory

In-form Berekum Chelsea hitman, Latif Salifu is up in ammunition already looking forward to the 2014 African Nations’ Championship (CHAN) finals after earning a call-up among a second batch of 27 players to pre-camping as Ghana begin preparations for the qualifying round tie against Benin next year.

Latif struck late in injury time on Saturday to give Chelsea all three points against New Edubiase and send the former champions top of the Glo Ghana Premier League after 7 match days.

Latif’s 5 goals since switching Liberty Professionals and Accra for Berekum also put him second on the scorers’ charts but the striker is more concerned with Chelsea’s continued stay atop the league standings. “That’s what we are aiming for so now that we are top, it means we have to work harder to win all our matches so that we maintain our position,” he told 90 MINUTES via phone as he travelled to the national team camp on Monday afternoon.

He continued: “It’s been a great move for me, everything is going well so I thank God very much and it’s my prayer that it can only get better.”

The U-20 World Cup winner told 90 MINUTES: “Anytime I have been called for the national teams, we won things so I hope it’s going to be same.

“I was with the U-20 in 2009 and we won three trophies and I also played against Nigeria in the qualifiers for the All Africa Games which we won.”

He added: “So I hope there will be no injuries this time and what I know I can do it to help my country.
