Chelsea coach relishes competition within club

English man Steve Pollack is counting his luck as his Berekum Chelsea commence the defence of their league title on Sunday, relishing what he believes is a stronger side.

Chelsea take on Mighty Jets at the Accra Sports Stadium on 2011/12 Match Day 1 with question marks hanging over their ability to live up to the standards of last season after last Sunday’s humiliating Super Cup defeat to Division One League side FC Nania.

But having lost four players to foreign clubs, Chelsea unveiled 18 new recruits on Wednesday among them former Premier League best player Charles Taylor as well as hotshots Baba Armando and Gladson Awako, sending the coach into utopian raptures, singing the pluses of his now very big squad.

“It’s a squad, not eleven players. It’s good to have competition so you keep the players on their toes. It’s not easy to retain a league title, all over the world it’s not easy but we’ll try our very best and I think we have the players to compete,” Pollack told Joy FM.

He is also keen on the CAF Champions League. “I’ve seen the games and we just need to go out there and do our best, not just for Chelsea but for Ghana,” said Pollack. *Credit:
