Central Regional referees go to school

Cape Coast, Nov. 6, GNA - The Chairman of the Central Regional Referees Association of Ghana, Mr Arthur Dadzie on Saturday warned that any member of the association found wanting in the discharge of his or her duties would be sanctioned.

He has therefore appealed to members of the association to eschew all acts of bribery, corruption and drunkenness that might bring the name of the association into disrepute.

Mr Dadzie was addressing the closing session of a three-day annual refresher course for 85 referees drawn from the Region. The course, organized by the association, was designed to update the skills and knowledge of the participants on modern trends of refereeing. He said the association in its bid to improve standards of refereeing has decided to rekindle enthusiasm of retired referees by bringing them into their fold to tap their expertise and experience to support the members while commending the media for showing keen interest and concern in the work of the association. Mr Matthew Doe, Chairman of the Regional Football Association advised the referees to be fair to all clubs in the matches they officiate in.

He advised the members not to allow club officials to influence them with money during matches and be prepared to expose such culprits to save their image.

Mr Joshua Mensah, the Course Coordinator commended the participants for their comportment during the course and said he hoped they would exhibit the knowledge they had acquired during the course to their daily performance on the field of play. The participants discussed such topics as psychology of refereeing, player management and practical demonstration of the off-side rules and fouls.
