CRICKET: Freetown Defeat Accra

The Sierra Leone national cricket team defeated Ghana by 131 runs on Tuesday in defence of their title in the quadrangular cricket tournament currently going on in Lagos.

Sierra Leone were the first to bat, they scored an impressive 240 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in the allotted 50 overs. Ghana were all bowled out for 109 runs in 27overs Alex Musa was the leading scorer on the Sierra Leonean side as he scored 48 runs while George Kpundeh hit 46 runs. The team captain, Mohamed Tombo Kamara scored 35 runs, Alie Kamara scored 27 runs, Momoh Foe hit 21 runs and Serry Turay Scored 16 runs.

Top scorer for Ghana was Arora with 22 not out, while Momohfoe Kpundeh bowling for Sierra Leone took 3 wickets for 23 runs.

George Kpundeh was the leading bowler on the Sierra Leonean side with 5 wickets for 19 runs. Bakiweyern was the leading bowler for Ghana with 4 wickets for 21 runs.

According to the Publicity Secretary of the Sierra Leone Cricket Association, Adolphus Samuels, the cricketers are in high spirit, with good bowling power backed up by superb fielding skills.

Sierra Leone will play their second match in the tournament against Gambia today and will meet the host, Nigeria in the final match on Saturday.

A victory for Sierra Leone today, which is likely, will improve their chances of retaining the quadrangular title.
