CEPS thump Reformers in SESSA Games

Accra, Oct. 30, GNA - SWAG Male Hockey Player of the Year, Ebenezer Frimpong, struck four times including a penalty stroke as CEPS thumped Reformers of Prisons 5-2 in the opening of the male hockey segment of this year's Ninth SESSA Games at the National Hockey Pitch in Accra on Saturday.

Featuring four of the national hockey players who participated in this year's African Hockey Cup of Nations in Pretoria, South Africa,CEPS proved too hot for the Reformers as they were forced to chase their own shadows for a greater part of the game.

Frimpong, opened the account as early as the fourth minute when he charged unto a well-taken penalty corner and lifted the ball into the rooth of the net and barely seven minutes later, he made it double from a trade-mark penalty stroke, displacing the goalkeeper completely. Immediately after the second goal, CEPS became complacent and allowed Reformers to dominate briefly. And in the 23rd minute, they were punished for the lapses at the rear as Peter Agyekum latched unto a loose ball to score.

CEPS redoubled their efforts to demolish their opponents with goal from David Dadzie (27th) and Frimpong (69th, 70th) while Agyekum scored Reformers second in the 58th minute.

In the other matches also played on Saturday, Fire Service won their two games in both the male and female divisions against Police. The men won 3-2 while the ladies registered a 3-1 victory. Reformers ladies atoned for the inadequacies of their men as they whitewashed Ghana Armed Forces 6-0. The Games continue on Monday.
