CAN 2008 will be the best ever - CAF Vice

Lome, March 25, GNA - The Vice President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) General Seyi Memene has said that the continental body is keeping faith with Ghana to deliver the best ever Nation's Cup next year.

Ghana host the biannual event for the second time in eight years and the Vice President told the GNA Sports that 93CAF believes Ghana 2008 will be the best ever in the history of the competition". It is said in football circles that the next tourney is often the best and the former national coach is convinced Ghana will underscore that point when Africa's best 16 assemble in search of the trophy which Egypt remains as the only country to have won it five times. General Memene told the GNA Sports in Lome that CAF has absolute faith in the capabilities of Ghana to deliver beyond expectation and will support the country in all aspects to enable them glitter. He touted the Ghanaian senior national team, the Black Stars as the current best in Africa, underscoring what their pedigree will mean to the three-week fiesta that spans January 20 - February 10. "The Stars made the continent completely proud at the World Cup in Germany and their recent amazing performances give credence to their strength as a football nation".

His native Togo, hosting their first ever major competition have plunged into a few organizational inadequacies, an issue the Vice President deem as natural.

The former Chairman of the Togolese Football Federation told GNA Sports that 93We reckon we have a lot to learn in terms of organization.

"But everything is being done since for the first time our organization will not be as near perfect as people expect. And we as a country are willing to learn especially when part of our aim is to be a candidate for the CAN 2016.

General Memene added that 93A lot of lessons have been learnt so far and now we appreciate too well the need to build infrastructure and other basic things that makes one's candidature a strong one.

"We feel completely happy to share the boarders with Ghana because we know just how much we can learn from them". He said learning in various ways from Ghana form part of their current highest priorities in their quest to better themselves for future assignments.

Togo is in the final of the African U-17 Championship as debutants.
