CAF to Award Ghanaian referee

The Confederation of African Football- CAF - will confer an award on veteran Ghanaian referee, Major George Lamptey, for the unalloyed services he has rendered to the soccer controlling body over the past years.

CAF officials took the decision after an executive meeting last year.

The award dubbed ?CAF Order of Merit Award? is in recognition of the referee?s achievement as an international referee, a CAF instructor, as well as a member of the CAF Referees Committee.

Major Lamptey was one of Ghana?s finest match officials.

The award will be conferred on the Ghanaian at the XXVIII CAF Ordinary General Assembly to be held in Cairo, Egypt between January 17 and 18, two days ahead of the start of the 2006 Nations Cup.
