CAF confirms South Africa as 2013 CAN hosts

Accra, Sept. 28, GNA - The Confederation of African Football (CAF) h= as confirmed South Africa as hosts of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations. The CAF Executive Committee at its meeting in Cairo, Egypt gave the hosting rights of the 29th edition of the biennial championship to South Africa due to the current political situation in the original host country, Libya.

"The Executive Committee also decided on a swap between Libya and So= uth Africa for the 2013 and 2017 tournaments respectively, considering the current political situation prevailing in Libya. "This means that South Africa will host 2013 Africa Cup of Nations a= nd Libya, the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations," CAF said in a statement on its website culled by GNA Sports in Accra.

In between, Morocco will host the 2015 edition of the Africa Cup of Nations. South Africa hosted the flagship African football tournament once in 1996, where they emerged the overall winners. The 2010 FIFA World Cup hosts will also organize the 2014 African Nations Championship, (CHAN) according to the latest directives. CAF also announced the award of the hosting rights of its under-age competitions for the six years.

Namibia will host the 2014 Africa Women's Championship, Niger - 2015 CAF U-17 Championship, Madagascar 96 2017 CAF U-17 Championship and Senegal - 2015 CAF U-20 Championship.
