C/R Division Two Middle League kicks off

Cape Coast, May 3, GNA - The Central Region Division Two Middle League took off at the Robert Mensah Stadium on Monday. Eight Clubs are participating in the week-long tournament which will see the winner gaining promotion into the First Division. In the opening match, Gomoa Ojobi Kaakyire Stars caused a stir when they used a depleted team of nine to pip Elmina Coconut Grove Sharks 1-0.

After a goalless first half, referee Joshua Mensah reduced the strength of Kaakyire Stars by showing red cards to two of their players, Frederick Amoo and Christian Mensah for second bookable offences. Despite the set back, Kaakyire Stars matched their opponents squarely and eventually scored the match winner through outside left, Gideon Baah in the 52nd minute.

Baah after collecting a pass from his midfielder, John Larnyoh, disposed of two defenders in a row to score the match winner. In another encounter, Mankessim MIR F/C beat Nyanyano Proud United 7-6 on penalties after drawing 2-2 at full time.
