Bright Addai joins Ghana squad to face South Africa

Ghana youth international Bright Addai has joined the Black Stars squad as a back-up plan for John Mensah for Wednesday’s friendly against South Africa.

The 17-year-old left Accra on Monday night as a contingency plan for Mensah who is likely to miss the friendly.

Addai, a member of the Black Satellites team which advanced to the last qualifying round of the 2011 African Youth Championship, is a like-for-like replacement for the Sunderland central defender.

“We don’t want to take chances so we invited this youngster to join the team,” Ghana FA Vice-President Fred Pappoe told Ghanasoccernet.com

Addai, a player of Ghana Premier League side Wa All Stars, has signed a pre-contract with Italian Serie A side Parma. Already Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac has been forced to make one change to his initial 18-man squad replacing Dominic Adiyiah with Ransford Osei.

The team are expected to hold their training session on Tuesday night.
