Brenya Paid At Last

A total amount of ?15,000,000 has finally been paid to Mr. Hayford Brenya as compensation for his troubles after being hit by a bullet in a shooting incident which occurred on November, 2002 after a league match between Asante Kotoko and Obuasi Goldfields.

The money was paid in two instalments following the recommendation of committee of inquiry set up by the Ashanti Regional Minister Hon. S.K Boafo.

Speaking to the Soccer Express after being paid the amount, Brenya expressed his appreciation to the paper for the interest shown in the matter, especially during the days when he was frustrated as a result of the bureaucracy at the Ministry of Youth, Education and Sports.

?I think your paper?s crusade in pursuit of the conclusion of the matter helped in no small measure in ensuring that I received the compensation,? he opened.

But notwithstanding the fact the he has been paid the compensation, Brenya stressed the number of trips he had to embark on to Accra and expenses involved, were such that very little of the money was left with him after settling his creditors.

It would be recalled that one person lost his life during the incident.
