Bonuses For National Teams Still Unpaid

The Ghana football Association is being inundated with demands for bonuses by Ghana’s national teams. The Black Stars have not been paid their winning bonuses for the match against Rwanda played Sunday. But that pales into insignificance when compared with the situation of the Black Queens who have not been paid their bonuses for their wins over Senegal even though they won their first match against Senegal almost three weeks ago.

The Black Satellites who are currently in Tunisia preparing for an African Youth championship have also been paid their winning bonuses after beating Tunisia here by one goal a fortnight ago.

Ghana Football Association (GFA) Chairman, Ben Koufie has blamed the delays on the Ministry of Youth and Sports. According to him, the Ministry has the responsibility of forwarding the bonuses due the various national teams to the Finance Ministry for onward payment. But the Ministry has blamed the delays on the GFA saying that they did not submit documents for the payments on time.

The non-payment of bonuses is already beginning to tell on the Black Stars for instance. Media reports on Wednesday’s match suggests that some of the player’s conspired not to give off their best and kept feigning injury all through the game.
