Blatter in town for Ghana 2008

Accra, Jan 16, GNA - Joseph Sepp Blatter, President of the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) on Wednesday arrived in Accra with a ten-man delegation to embark on official duties in the country.

The FIFA President would witness the opening match of the 26th Africa Cup of Nations between Ghana and Guinea at the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium, Accra as part of his four-day stay in the country. He would also participate in the impending General Assembly of the Confederation Africa Football (CAF), on Saturday, January 19 at the International Conference Center.

Prior to these, Blatter would also inaugurate the Ghanaman Technical Centre at Prampram, an artificial turf at the Tema Sports Stadium and the newly constructed Headquarters of the GFA.

The Blatter led delegation is made up of Mr Jerome Valcke, General Secretary, Mr Michel Platini, UEFA President, Vice-President, FIFA and Deputy Chairman of the FIFA Goal Bureau, Mr Pascal Torres, Director of Development and Mr Pekka Odriozola, Communication Division. Also in the delegation are, Mr Guy-Philippe Mathieu, Assistant to the FIFA President, Mr Sampson J. Kablan, FIFA Development Officer of West Africa, Mr David Taylor, General Secretary-UEFA, Mr Kevin Lamour, Assistant to the UEFA Officer and Mr Diallo Souleymane, assistant FIFA Development Officer- West Africa.

Sepp Blatter was met on arrival by Dr Kofi Amoah, Chairman of the Local Organising Committee of the Ghana 2008, Mr Mustapha Fahmy, General Secretary of CAF and other officials of the continent's football governing body.
