Accra, March 28, GNA - The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has registered new colours for the Black Stars after public disapproval of the black apparel they used in their final group match, in last January's African Cup of Nations tournament in Egypt.

When the Stars appear at the World Cup in June, they will use their white jerseys with a combination of red, gold and green with red being the dominant colour.

"There will be no more black kits for the Black Stars," Mr O.B. Amoah, Deputy Minister of Education and Sports said at the 'Meet-the Press' series in Accra on Tuesday.

Soccer fans were surprised at the black jerseys the Stars used in their 1-2 loss to Zimbabwe in their final group match in the Egypt tournament.

The Stars failed to qualify for the quarterfinals after winning only one match and losing two.

Mr Yaw Osafo-Maafo, Minister of Education and Sports said the Black Stars would move into camp for the World Cup on May 15 in an European country that had offered to host them for free. He said fans who intend to be in Germany for the World Cup should ensure that they have tickets to watch the matches, an air ticket and a visa.

The issuance of the visa is however outside the control of the Ministry and rests solely with the German Embassy, he added. On CAN 2008 being hosted by Ghana, Mr Osafo-Maafo said work was progressing on the four stadiums that were to be used for the tournament - Accra, Kumasi, Tamale and Sekondi.

He said a Confederation of African Football (CAF) inspection team that visited the country recently expressed concern about hotel facilities at Tamale for the four teams, their officials, supporters and CAF officials.

Mr Osafo-Maafo said since they could not rely on the private sector to provide hotel facilities before the tournament, government had decided to build a first class students' hostel that would be used by the teams.

Students of the University for Development Studies and the Tamale Polytechnic at the end of the tournament would eventually use the hostel.

He said more than 26 billion cedis had been set aside to promote and develop school sports, adding that the Ministry was working on an integrated sports plan for the country.
