Black Stars players unhappy with timing of Japan friendly

Footy-ghana.com can reveal that some senior players of the Black Stars have expressed their misgivings about Ghana’s scheduled friendly match against Japan on September 10.

According to highly placed sources, some of the players approached Ghana head coach Kwasi Appiah after the 2-2 draw with Turkey and asked him to protest about the match on their behalf.

Footy-ghana.com understands that Appiah told the players that nothing could be done about the Japan match since terms and conditions had already been agreed by the Ghana Football Association.

Footy-ghana.com can confirm that the players are concerned about losing their places in their respective teams if they honour the match, coming on the heels of the crucial 2014 World Cup qualifier against Zambia on September 6, because of the long travelling times involved.

In a related development, footy-ghana.com understands that some of the players will ask to be excused from the Japan friendly match after playing against Zambia, prompting Appiah to prepare call-ups for 25 players to cover for any absences during the Japan game.
