Black Stars could face African opponent if Freiburg pulls out

The Ghana FA is in talks with an unnamed African opponent to face the Black Stars in the final pre-tournament friendly on January 14th if SC Freiburg decides to pull out of the warm-up match.

The Black Stars originally agreed to play against Freiburg in Algeciras before the German outfit tackles Mainz 05 in Marbella. But, Communications Director of the GFA, Ibrahim Sannie Darra claims there could be a late change in the choice of opponents.

“Our last friendly will be against German Bundesliga side Freiburg on the 14th of January but there could be some changes so the officials are talking to an African opponent. You will realize that we have played only European opposition so far in our preparations,” Sannie Darra said.

Freiburg have been camping in Sotogrande, a municipality of Santa Roque in Cadiz, Spain ahead of their German Bundesliga second round clash against Eintracht Frankfurt on January 31st.

Avram Grant’s side secured a 3-0 victory over Olhanense in the first test match in Portugal on January 7 before holding SC Cambuur to a 1-1 draw last Thursday.
