Black Queens to play Falcons

GHANA’s female soccer team Black Queens are due to meet their arch rivals Super Falcons of Nigeria in a two-leg friendly international in December.

The Queens meet the Falcons in Lagos on December 15 with the return leg in Accra within a fortnight’s time from thence.

According to GFA management Board, member responsible for the Queens, Mr Sylvester Mensah, the friendlies have been arranged by the Nigerians as normal training game between the continent’s most powerful female teams.

For Mr Mensah, the friendly would afford the national handlers to assess their strength against the Africa champions, especially as Ghana rebuilds the ageing team that won bronze at this year’s African championship in South Africa.

and given the closeness of the fixture to the Yuletide, the GFA has, accordingly, written to their Abuja-based counterparts for confirmation of the matches in order to inform Ghana on preparations for the event.

Ghana has never beaten Nigeria in women’s football since the two countries first met in 1991 and subsequent encounters between the Queens and Falcons have all ended in the Nigerians’ favour.
