Black Queens beat their DR Congo counterparts

Kumasi, Oct 26, GNA-The Black Queens of Ghana posed a 2-0 win over the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in their Olympic Games qualifying match played in Kumasi on Sunday.

When everything looked like a thin 1-0 win for the Queens like their male counterparts, the Black Meteors who beat the Amagluglug of South Africa in Accra, Adwoa Bayor's magic gave the Queens the second goal on the stroke of full time.

Adwoa Foriwaah shot the Queens into a 64th minute lead from Adwoa Bayor's clinical pass after a rather disappointing first half performance which ended goalless.

The Queens could have won by a larger margin if they had taken the chances that came their way in the first half during which they played rather sluggishly.

For instance in the ninth minute, Adwoa Foriwaah with only the Congolese goalkeeper to beat shot wide and was followed by Patience Sackey who also shot wide in the 22nd minute and Akua Anokyewaa also shot over the bar in the 24th minute.

The Congolese, who adopted a defensive strategy to either secure a draw or keep the scoreline down, occasionally broke loose with Bibi Walo spearheading their attack but could not cause any damage to the Queen's defence.

The Queens replaced Adwoa Foriwaah in the 72nd minute with Yaa Avoe after scoring the opener and this seemed to have given them renewed vigour as they piled pressure on the Congolese.

The Congolese also replaced their captain Dassi Moseya in the 69th minute but it was the Queens who kept the pressure on their opponent and just on the stroke of full time, Adwoa Bayor scored the second goal to give them a strong lead.
