Bechem United hold Unity FC in Middle League

Accra, May 13, GNA - Unity FC and Bechem United played out a 1-1

draw game in their Zone Three Zonal Middle League opener on Friday at

the Ohene Djan Stadium, Accra. Bechem United came from behind to steal a vital point in the encounter

involving two Brong Ahafo region clubs. However, the Bechem lads will have themselves to blame after failing t= o

convert a flurry of scoring opportunities that came their way in the second

half. After a slow start by both teams, Hwidiem-based Unity FC shot into

the lead on 24 minutes through William Abotey, who connected from

Emmanuel Lartey's cross from the right. Bechem United, making a third successive appearance in the Zonal

Middle League responded by taking over the middle but striker Mumumi

Mustapha and Issah Adamu wasted clear-cut chances in the 30th and 45th

minutes respectively. With former Liberty Professionals and Aduana Stars offensive

midfielder Emmanuel Allan leading the attack, Bechem United resumed the

second half purposefully and it was only a matter of time that the equalize= r

would come. Their efforts finally paid off in the 48th minute, when Mustapha on th= e

counter laid a perfect pass to Allan, who slammed home from close range

reminiscent of Unity's goal. Bechem United had the upper in the remainder of proceedings with

midfielder Richard Afriyie, Allan and substitute Gabriel Osei leading raids

upfront but woefully failing to convert their chances. On 70 minutes, FIFA referee Samuel Gyasi scored a 91low' for dishin= g

out a yellow card to Unity FC's captain Lartey, for an off-the-ball heade= r

on Bechem United's defender James Yeboah that called for protest from

most of the fans. Seven minutes later, Allan slipped after being put through by Mustapha= ,

with only the Unity FC goalie Joe Agyemang to beat, as the best chance of

the game went waste. In the other match played at the Tema Stadium, Bazooka beat Guan

United by a lone goal.
