Bechem Chelsea set for Kuwait training tour

Accra, Aug. 9, GNA - Premiership campaigners, Bechem Chelsea will embark on a pre-season training tour of Kuwait as part of preparations for the next soccer season.

The three-week tour of the oil-rich Gulf State is to fine-tune the team's preparation for their second stint in the Premier League. Nana Kwame Nketia, Chief Executive Officer of the Club told GNA Sports that a contingent of players and technical team will leave for Kuwait on Friday, August 21 barring any hitches. According to the CEO, preparations for the trip, which will serve a great source of international exposure for the team has reached an advanced stage.

"The trip is being funded by an Asia-based Sports agency. The Agency is taking care of the airfare and accommodation of the team." Nana Nketia added that whilst in Kuwait the team will pitch their strength against some First and Second Division Clubs to test their readiness for the 2009/2010 Glo Premier League.

Bechem Chelsea finished fifth in the Premiership in their maiden attempt in the top flight last season, nine points adrift of champions, Accra Hearts of Oak and the CEO is optimistic that the Asian tour will aid their quest to make a great impact next season. "Last season our ambition was to avoid the drop and we hope to improve on that next season."

On recruitment for next season, Nana Nketia mentioned the capture of Gamba All Black striker Obed Owusu as their biggest catch. "We have sealed a three-year deal with Obed. The deal was signed last Tuesday and he is already in our camp.

"We don't intend to bring in more players. We organized a justifier recently and have roped in some young players."

Meanwhile the Bechem-based Club has placed 18 players on transfer. The CEO explained that the list is dominated by players who rarely saw action during the last season.
