Madeira, Portugal - Maritimo named Ghana's Mariano Barreto as its new coach.
Barreto, who just led Ghana to a 2-0 victory over Cape Verde in World Cup qualifying this past weekend, left his post with the national side to take over at the Portuguese club.
Maritimo hired Barreto to replace Manuel Cajuda, who was fired after a loss in the season opener last week. Barreto's first match at Maritimo will be a league contest against Penafiel this weekend. He will then lead his new club against Scottish side Rangers in the UEFA Cup next Thursday.
Barreto was in charge of Ghana's Olympic team earlier this summer. Ghana did not advance out of group play.
