B. Chelsea owes GFA over $220,000 in transfer percentages

Footy-ghana.com understands that former Premier League champions Berekum Chelsea is facing serious financial challenges ahead of the new season.

According to our sources, the club owes the Ghana Football Association (GFA) stipulated percentages on transfer fees amounting to over $220,000 over the transfers of Emmanuel Clottey, Richard Kissi Boateng and Gladson Awako amongst other players.

As a rule, the GFA retains a minimum of 10% of any transfer fee commanded by a local club in selling a player to an overseas club, but Berekum Chelsea has not honoured its obligations to the GFA over such transfers.

Footy-ghana.com can also confirm that Eric Bekoe and Charles Taylor are both owed signing on fees and salaries by the club, whilst the club’s over $200,000 debt to former head coach Hans Van der Pluym is well documented.

Footy-ghana.com has also learnt that the bankroller of the club, Emmanuel Kyeremeh, who has been out of the country over the last 18 months, has not been pumping in as much money as he used to in the past and that was a reason why the club’s Director of Operations, Nana Oduro Sarfo resigned recently.

Berekum Chelsea won the Premier League title in 2011 and reached the group phase of the 2012 CAF Champions League.
