Awal heads to Rosenborg

Ghana midfielder Awal Mohammed has joined Rosenborg FC in Norway potentially as a replacement for Anthony Annan.

Mohammed who spent the last two seasons at Red Star Belgrade after moving from AmaZulu in South Africa can also play in central defence and has been penned down for his debut on August 7 against Molde.

Head coach Jan Johnson says he wants Awal to observe the side on a trip to Iceland before drafting him into the team because he reckons the Ghanaian is not 100% match fit.

Awal himself is delighted with the chance of a new beginning in a new country even though he says he thoroughly enjoyed his time at Red Star. "I am leaving Red Star with a smile. I'm a fan of Red Star.”

He added that: "I want to thank all the teammates, the people at the club and especially the fans, because although I am a foreigner, I felt as a domestic player at Red Star.”

Awal's move to Norway now gives him the opportunity to play in the European Champions League with Rosenborg.
