Awal could replace injured Boye against Togo

GHANASoccernet.com can confirm that South Africa-based defender Mohammed Awal will replace injured John Boye in Ghana’s defence to face Togo in a 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Wednesday.

The in-form Maritzburg United centre-back got the nod to start after Boye suffered an ankle injury in training on Monday.

Awal has an opportunity to impress head coach Kwesi Appiah after he was overlooked for in the provisional squad for the 2014 World Cup finals.

The former Asante Kotoko player was a member of Ghana’s squad at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.

Ghana need a win against the Hawks in Lome after a disappointing 1-1 with Uganda at home last Saturday.
