Former Israel national team coach Avraham Grant is in Accra and is likely to travel to Tamale to watch the Ghana-Togo Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Wednesday, November 19, the Ghana Football Association President has said.
The Association hopes to complete a deal with the Israeli after the qualifier.
Kwesi Nyantakyi disclosed this to Michael Oti Adjei of TV3’s Talk Sports fame after the Black Stars' 0-1 loss to Uganda last Saturday.
“Avram Grant, as I speak to you now, is in Accra,” Mr Nyantakyi said.
“We have had preliminary discussions with him. And it is almost certain that we will reach an agreement.”
The Former Chelsea boss came out tops after the GFA’s interview of short-listed coaches for the Stars’ job. The job was left vacant after the Association parted company with Kwesi Appiah.
According to Mr Nyantakyi, Grant, 59, possesses the qualities to deal with “the challenges the Black Stars team is currently going through.”
The GFA President said: “Avram Grant is a motivator. He has the capacity or skill to manage egos of top players.”
One concern with the appointment of the Israeli is the resistance the Ghana team may be confronted with when travelling to Arabic nations not only in Africa but across the world due to Grant's nationality.
But the GFA President allayed fears, saying a “satisfactory arrangement” has been made to deal with that.
“Very soon, in a matter of two, three months time, that problem will be soon resolved so that we move on with him.”
Grant is set to land a two-year deal to take charge of the Stars.
