Augsburg coach sacks Opare for reporting late

Daniel Opare Daniel Opare

Augsburg coach Markus Weinzierl sacked Ghana defender Daniel Opare from the club's training ground after reporting late as they prepared to face Darmstadt last week in the German top-flight, Bundesliga.

Weinzierl is running out of patience for the talented and versatile wing back, signed to replace compatriot Baba Rahman, but turning out to be a huge transfer flop.

Opare was therefore not named in the team which earned a 2-2 draw away at the Merck-Stadion am Bollenfalltor.

He blew his chance because 32-year-old Paul Vergaeh was sick and that was going to be his first competitive match.

The former Real Madrid youth team player was perhaps unlucky when he suffered a muscle injury on his first day of training because he had not warmed up enough.

But his disciplinary record has not helped matters too.

During the winter break training camp, he isolated himself from all the other players which has sparked concerns about him being a team player.

According to a publication by the respected German newspaper the Bild, Opare was spotted alone playing balls into cans.

Opare’s contract ends in June 2018 and the question is will the club continue to pay him if he still behaves so?
