Atsu: Uganda pitch was a disaster

Black Stars player Christian Atsu has likened the playing surface of the Ugandan Mandela Stadium to a potato pitch just a day after the Cranes defeated the Stars in the 2015 AFCON qualifiers.

The playing surface was in a deplorable state as the Stars failed to make any meaningful combinations on the pitch in their 0-1 defeat to the Cranes.

Players such as stand-in captain, Andre Ayew, John Boye and Jonathan Mensah all stated their disappointment to the handlers of the Mandela pitch and were shocked as to why CAF will approve such surface for an AFCON qualifier of such magnitude.

And the latest to do so is Everton’s winger, Christian Atsu who indicated that the poor nature of the playing field caused the Stars the three maximum points.

“The pitch was not good at all and almost all the players complained about it, we could have done better especially in the second half, the pitch couldn’t help, it was so difficult to even control a ball.”

“Now, that game is over and we have to concentrate on the next game in Tamale on Wednesday, we have to make sure we go all out in that game, and I am sure we will qualify to the AFCON.”
