Ashgold supporters begin sit down strike

Obuasi, Oct. 25, GNA - Members of Shaft, the supporters union of Ashantigold Sporting Club have announced a three-match sit down strike in protest against the management and Board of Directors of the Club. Mr J.K. Nimoh Poku, the national Secretary of the Supporters Union who briefed the media at the weekend at Obuasi said their decision follows what he termed was the lack of information flow from the management to the supporters and stressed "henceforth we have suspended our support in a sit down strike for three consecutive matches". According to the secretary, the supporters only hear news about the Club through the electronic and print media, a situation that did not augur well for club-supporter relations.

"We want management to communicate to us", he said, whilst expressing worry that an earlier decision to elect two supporters each to represent their interest at management and board levels had been overturned.

"On 24 August, 2009, we reminded them about the decision, in addition, there had been several occasions and personal contacts to remind them of the same decision but there has been no response." The National Secretary of the Shafts added that "If they do not take care and fail to come out within the three match period, the next line of action will not be favourable to Club's Management and Board." Mr Nimoh-Poku said that the only source of social entertainment in the Obuasi Municipality and its environs was the activities of the Club and that they would not look on for some people to contribute to the waning fortunes of the Club.

When GNA Sports contacted Mr Clement Donkor, a management member, he expressed surprise at the action of the supporters, since according to him there are a lot of avenues for the supporters to address any problem they face.

"Our doors are wide open to them and again the leadership of the Club relates with them all and at times they are invited to meetings and other matters", he said.

Meanwhile some members of the supporters union have embarked on a demonstration against the management and board in front of the Len Clay Stadium on Monday morning.
