Ashgold aims at League Trophy in coming football season

Obuasi, Sept. 6, GNA – The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ashanti Gold Sporting Club, Kudjoe Fianoo has said the Club will be a force to reckon with in the coming football season.

“We have been second in the Premier League for the past two or three years running, meaning we have what it takes to clinch the ultimate prize”, he said.

Speaking to the press at Obuasi, Mr Fianoo stressed, “our aim is to annex the championship trophy in the 2011-2012 Premier League season and we have the materials to enable us achieve that feat”.

Mr Fianoo who confirmed the Club’s willingness to participate in the novelty Top 8 competition, said the Club’s priority is not just to win the trophy, but given the chance it aims at pulling surprises.

“There have been instances when Clubs which win the Top 4 prize fail to impress when the actual League begins and therefore we are cautious of our participation.”

The Ashgold Chief Executive said Ashgold have recruited a lot of new players and the Top 8 would be used as an exercise to blend the old and the new players into a winsome side.

“We have got a lot of new players and the Top 8 will be used as an opportunity to blend the new and old players so that we can perform well at the commencement of the Premier League,” he said.

Mr Fianoo called for understanding and cooperation from the supporters’ front, saying, “I want them to keep their cool and to allow management to play its managerial role so that collectively we move the club forward”.

“They should not deny the Club the support they need. Both management and supporters have a common aim of ensuring the growth of Ashgold through successful football seasons”, Mr Fianoo stressed.
