Ashanti Gold captain Lawrence Lartey has urged belief among its supporters as the Ghana Premier League nears the home stretch.

In a hot battle with second-placed Aduana Stars and third-placed Inter Allies, and with just three rounds of matches to go, worried followers of the club have expressed concerns about their chances of ending what has been an 18-year drought following a series of near misses in the past seasons.

“They should still support us with their prayers as always and we will work hard to make them happy,” Lartey told Goal.

“We know what is at stake now so we have prepared very well for the games. With more prayers, focus and determination, we will achieve something.

“We are praying to the Creator that what happened the previous seasons will not repeat itself.”

With Ghana having been eliminated from the qualifiers of the 2016 Olympic Games, Lartey, who also doubles as captain of the national Under-23 side, spoke on the team as well as his personal ambitions regarding international football.

“Our main target was to qualify for the Olympics Games but we couldn’t. I will say God knows best,” he said.

“We have the All Africa Games coming as well and we’re praying to get something out of that.

“Playing for the Black Stars is my dream because I have played for the U20 and U23 categories, what is left is the senior team.

"I am praying the Almighty would let that happen as well,” he said.
