Asamoah's Nice deal may not go ahead

Derek Asamoah's move to top French club Nice may not be going ahead after current club Shrewsbury said he was contracted to them.

Nice announced last week that they had agreed a three-deal with the former Northampton Town winger, but Shrewsbury manager Gary Peters insists no deal has yet been finalised.

Peters said: "We will be announcing the full details as soon as we can with regard to the Derek Asamoah situation.

"Sometimes things get announced at the other football club when legally the deal is not yet done and in a transfer like this, unless there is money in your bank account and you know the deal is done, it is foolish to announce anything.

"If anyone has announced anything about a possible signing then they have announced it too early because as yet, nothing has been done with Derek Asamoah."

Asamoah played more than 100 games for the Cobblers, many as substitute, before leaving Sixfields.
