Asamoah Gyan rejects move to England

Harry Redknapp's attempt to sign Udinese's Asamoah Gyan has ended in defeat after the Ghana star joined Lokomotiv Moscow.

Redknapp is a long-term admirer of Gyan and was keen on bringing him to Fratton Park to strengthen Portsmouth's bid for a place in Europe for the first time in their history.

Lokomotiv's fierce city rivals Spartak Moscow were also reported to be chasing his signature but he has now completed a ?5.9million switch to the Russian side.

Gyan will join brother Baffour, who is already playing his football in Russia for Saturn.

Redknapp's hopes of a possible move for Gyan's former Udinese teammate Sulley Muntari also look to be fading. The Pompey boss remains a fan of Muntari but, for now, appears to have been priced out of a move to the south coast side.
