Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan proved his match fitness after playing full throttle in the Shanghai derby on Friday.

The striker shrugged off a recent thigh injury to last the entire duration in Shanghai SIPG’s 1-1 draw with Shanghai Shenhua at home in the Chinese Super League.

His involvement in today’s match means he will be available for Ghana for the two upcoming matches against Mozambique in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Gyan had been in the treatment room after suffering an injury in their opening Asian Champions League clash with Melbourne Victory in Australia, which they lost 2-1 about two weeks.

He did not play in the Chinese league's opening match last week sparking fears that the injury prevented him from playing the match.

However the club's insiders says Gyan's exclusion from last week's match was only a preventative measure to ensure that that he is not rushed into a return.

The Black Stars take on the Mambas on 24 March before travelling to Maputo three days later for the return leg.
