Arsenals capo refutes Police boss accusations

Sunyani, (B/A) Aug. 29, GNA - Alhaji Yakubu Moro, Chairman of Berekum Arsenals Football club has refuted the allegations of impropriety levelled against him by the Brong Ahafo Regional Police Commander

He said the impression that sought to claim that it was he (Moro) who asked the military to leave the inner perimeter to the stands during the Club's Premier League encounter against Accra Hearts of Oak on Sunday, August 20 2006 was false.

Alhaji Moro said this in a letter written by his solicitor, Mr. Francis Obiri, a Sunyani based lawyer in reaction to the Regional Police Commander, ACP Ayesu Opare-Addo. The ACP Opare-Addo in a letter on August 22 accused Alhaji Moro for the act against the military who were detailed to the Berekum Golden City Park to beef up security during the match. The letter said "It was rather the Match Commissioner, the Vice chairman of the Professional League Board (PLB) and the Berekum District Chief Executive who asked the military men to leave the inner perimeter, which they obliged and went to the stands". It further recalled that at the pre-match conference, it was agreed that there would be no military presence at the stadium, which stand was accepted by both teams and officials.

The letter said that after a pre-match conference of any match, "it is the duty of the District Security Council or the Regional Security Council to provide extra security for the match but even then the home team have to be informed of it accordingly".
