Appiah eyes crucial win in Sudan

Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah believes the Black Stars have come to a crucial point in their bid to reach the final round of qualifying for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

The Black Stars are away to Sudan on Friday in Omdurman in the Group D qualifier.

Chasing a third consecutive appearance at the World Cup finals, the Black Stars are just one point adrift Zambia with the side that finishes top, advancing to next round.

Appiah says past results will not have any influence on their approach to the game.

"I have a big respect for Sudan. Even though we beat them 4-0 in our previous meeting, I observed that they are a very formidable side.

"I watched them in a recent friendly match and you can see that they are still a strong side even though they have made some changes in their team.

"But I am confident that the Black Stars will get an important win here which will go a long way in ensuring that we will qualify for the World Cup," Kwesi Appiah told ghanafa.org.

The Ghana coach admits that there is no margin for error at this stage of the qualifying campaign and explains that the Black Stars have been working hard to ensure progress.

"Everything has worked perfectly for us since we started the camping in Accra to Ethiopia and from what I have seen after the last training we are very ready for Sudan," Appiah said.

"The temperature is very high here but from the way the players trained in Sudan it show that the altitude training in Ethiopia has had a positive impact on their fitness," he said.
