Appiah apologises after Benin tantrums

Stephen Appiah has apologised to Milovan Rajevac for his reaction after he was pulled off in Ghana’s loss away to Benin over the weekend.

The Black Stars captain yelled in the direction of the Ghana coach when he saw his number on the board after a poor game before walking off the pitch muttering to himself and snubbing one team official as he offered a hand.

Ghana had no conceded a goal in 546 minutes since they went down against Libya in Tripoli last year but Benin completely bossed the encounter in Cotonou and were only denied victory by an in-from Richard Kingston who pulled off at least three world class saves to keep the score level until the final minutes on injury time.

And while Appiah openly disagreed with his substitution at a time Isaac Vorsah was being introduced, it was clear he was out of sorts and unable to significantly influence the game.

He conceded as much afterwards. “I thought I could carry on, I felt okay but on reflection I shouldn’t have reacted that way especially with the way the coach has backed me in these difficult times,” he told KickOffGhana.com.
