Appiah & Muntari's Absence Fooled Mali

Black Stars Serbian manager Milovan Rajevac has attributed his side's vintage show in Mali to the psychological advantage they had had over their host.

In a post-arrival interview at the Air Force base in Accra at mid-day yesterday, he revealed that complacency crept into the Malians camp when news reached them about the absence of Stephen Appiah, Sulley Muntari and other key players.

According to coach Milo, through his interpreter, "We went in as underdogs, so there was no pressure on us to deliver." He revealed that information about the absence of some of the Stars' key performers made the Malian team complacent.

"That made them overconfident in their play, especially in the first half, but they became frustrated along the line and we capitalized on that, hence the victory," said Milo.

Responding to the chances of the team in their next away game against Sudan on June 20, he noted that: "We are going to approach that game with the same mental toughness as we approached the Mali game, and we hope to return with good results."

The Chronicle Sports chanced on some of the players on their arrival at the Air Force Base. Below are excerpts of the conversation that ensued.
