Anokye Stars wins Ashanti Coca Cola U-17 Tourney

Accra, Aug. 24, GNA - Anokye Stars of Kumasi stunned

Corners Babies 1-0 to win the just ended Coca Cola U-17 Soccer

Championship, held at the Wesley College School Park, Kumasi in

the Ashanti Region. Anokye took home a glittering giant trophy and a cash prize of

Gh¢400 plus products of the sponsors. United FC placed third as they also beat Cosmos FC 1-0 in a

keenly contested third-placed game. Anokye Stars are thus on a stand-by for the national

competition as they wait for other regional champions. They received a plaque and a cash prize of GH¢300 and Coca

Cola products. The competition, which was launched two months ago, is to

unearth soccer talents across the country and attracted eight top

flight colts sides from the Ashanti Region. The two-day soccer fiesta was preceded by a clinic for the

technical staff of the participating teams, which was conducted by

coaches E. K. Afranie and Francis Oti Akenteng, CAF Technical

Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA). The eight teams included Anokye Stars - Kumasi, Corners

Babies-Kumasi, United FC -Deduako, Butchers FC - Konongo,

Aston Villa - Effiduase, Ato Plans - Obuasi, Cosmos FC -

Obuasi and Pasha FC - Bosomtwi. Samuel Bio of Corners Babies won The Best Player award with

Barnes Owusu of Anokye Stars winning the Top Scorer Award. The Discovery of the tournament award went to Jasper Ofori

Nartey of United FC with the Best Coach going to Sannie of

Anokye Stars.
