Andre Ayew to undergo surgery today

Ghana winger Andre Ayew will undergo a knee surgery today that could rule him out of action for two months after suffering the setback while playing for the Black Stars.

The 23-year-old was substituted after feeling pain in his left knee during the second leg of Ghana’s 2014 FIFA World Cup play-off against Egypt last week.

Ayew was diagnosed with a non-stable external meniscal tear which has prompted the call for surgery in a top hospital in France.

Dr Jean-Pierre Franceschi will carry out the surgery on the Ghana international in Marseille.

Ghana comfortably won the tie 7-3 on aggregate triumph, but the news was bad for Ayew who was diagnosed with a meniscal tear in his knee.

The forward is tipped to miss up to eight weeks.

“Ayew went through diverse examinations on his return to Marseille on Wednesday afternoon by Marseille’s medical team, led by Christophe Baudot,” a Marseille statement read.

Ayew has made 14 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring four goals.
