Amartey: Leicester's impressive form attracted me

Ghana defender Daniel Amartey says Leicester’s sensational season was one of the main reasons he chose to join Claudio Ranieri’s team.

Amartey, who was a revelation at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, was linked with English giants Liverpool and French giants Olympique Lyon.

But the versatile arrived at the high-flying English Premier League side during the January window from FC Copenhagen.

Amartey: “The Premier League is the best in the world.

"And how well Leicester have done this season was another attraction for me joining the club.

"To come to a team that is top of the Premier League was something I couldn’t turn down, and I didn’t find it a daunting prospect at all.

"I’d watched quite a lot of Leicester before joining and I remember thinking to myself ‘This is a good team’ and I was very impressed with what they achieved at the end of last season."

But Amartey, 21, says it was a big step to leave Scandinavia to try and make the grade in the Premier League.

He added: "It’s a big change to move from Denmark to England. But I know Jeff Schlupp from our time with the Ghana team so that was good for me. Since I’ve been here it’s been a case of adapting to England."
