Amankwaa in contention for golden boot

Ughelli, Delta State, Nov. 4, GNA 96 Anita Amankwaa, Black Queens sensational striker is in strong contention for the Golden Boot Award after grabbing two goals in the Ghanaians' 3-1 win over the Democratic Republic of Congo on Saturday.

The exceptional player who scored twice in the game took her tally to four, just one goal behind Nigerian Cynthia Ouwak who scored five goals. Perpetual Nkwocha, also of Nigeria has three goals to her credit. Saturday's game was the second time the 17-year old was scoring twice.

She scored both goals when the Queens defeated the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon 2-1 in another group game last Tuesday. The player is making a debut at the African Women Championship (AWC) currently underway in Nigeria and is already touted at the revelation of the biannual competition.

Amankwaa has won both spectators and the media over with her amazing skill, swiftness, strength, pace and intelligence. The player seen as an influential commodity in the team is expected to lead the Queens to victory when they meet the Bayana Bayana of South Africa in a semi final duel on Tuesday at the Oghara Stadium.

Amankwaa plies her trade with Takoradi Ghatel Ladies and her incredible recovery makes her the best in the team's attack. The debutant is expected to start the duel against the South Africans which the Queens must win to grab one of the two slots that automatically qualifies a team to the next FIFA World Cup slated for the Republic of China in 2007.
