Ghanaian-born Alphonso Davies has been named the Canadian U17 footballer of the year.

The player’s outstanding campaign saw him receive a call-up to the Canada senior National team.

Alphonso Davies, who was born in Budumbura (Ghana) left for Canada at a tender age and has since been part of the Canadian National team.

He was awarded after securing votes from national team coaches as well as Canadian clubs and coaches.

The 17-year-old Vancouver Whitecaps FC midfielder was honored together with Jordyn Huitema who was also named the Canadian female U17 player of the year.

The talented player finished ahead of runners up Jordan Faria (Brampton, ON / Toronto FC Academy) and Julian Dunn-Johnson (Richmond Hill, ON / Toronto FC II).

“It was a breakout year for Alphonso Davies as the CONCACAF Gold Cup gave him the stage to showcase the range of his talents,” said Octavio Zambrano, Canada Soccer’s Men’s National Team Head Coach.

“He is a force with which to be reckoned as he is strong, he is fast, and he doesn’t flinch in front of goal. He is a player with all the tools and he has a good head on his shoulders.”

The youngster for the second year running has won the prestigious award after clinching it last year.

He has been invited for trials at English giants Manchester United.
