Al Ahly coach: Chelsea can't win Champions League

Al Ahly coach Hossam Al Badri believes Berekum Chelsea lack the needed experience to win the CAF Champions League after the Egyptian giants held the Ghanaian side to a 1:1 drawn game at the Accra Sports stadium.

Ahly scored first after a quick counter attack caught the home side pants down allowing striker Oussou Konan Anicet to tap home after Mohammed Abou Trika’s header struck the upright.

Jordan Opoku leveled the scores from close range in the second half, but Chelsea could have gone on to win the game had striker Bismark Idan converted from 3 yards while Owusu Jackson also struck the crossbar from a free kick.

Though Chelsea still have a chance to qualify for the semi finals if they win their next game against Zamalek and also beat TP Mazembe who are close contenders for second position, Al Ahly coach Hossam Al Badri says he doubts whether Chelsea can win the trophy.

“They are a good team but I think they don’t have enough experience and I’m sure in the future they can do something,” Hossam told Radio Gold’s Nana Dakwah.

“But so far I think it would be difficult for them to win the competition because they have no experience. But they have a good quality and good players; maybe in the future they can do it.”

Ahly are now in pole position to qualify for the semi finals of the Champions league having accumulated 10 points, followed by TP Mazembe who have 7 points while Chelsea have 4 points. But Hossam is not getting carried away with talk of winning the title just yet.

“We will fight. Of course it will not be easy but because there are many big and difficult teams there. But we will try out best.”
