Al Ahly coach Badry: We want Clottey!

Hossam Badry, head coach of Al Ahly has exclusively told 90 MINUTES the Egyptian giants are seriously considering a bid for Berekum Chelsea striker Emmanuel Clottey.

The Ghanaian has made the headlines for his goal scoring exploits in this year’s CAF Champions’ League amid igniting a host of bids from several clubs in Africa and beyond including Champions’ League group opponents T.P. Mazembe and now Ahly of course.

“Sure, we will like to sign him. He’s a fantastic player who will make our team stronger but we are waiting until the end of the Champions’ League to make an offer,” Hossam Badry answered 90 MINUTES enquiries on the Ahly team bus after leading his team to hold their Ghanaian counterparts to a 1-1 stalemate at the Accra Sports Stadium.

He added: “We are really interested in the player and hope that next year he will be playing for Al Ahly. We are hoping to reach a deal with Berekum (Chelsea) but it has to be a reasonable price.”

His side remain unbeaten and moved within just a point of making the semi finals of Africa’s flagship club competition yet again. Chelsea meanwhile fell further behind 2nd placed Mazembe whose 2-1 win in Cairo over Zamalek moved their tally to 7 points but the Ahly helmsman believes Chelsea will get stronger.

He told us in impeccable English “Chelsea are a good team and I won’t rule them out of qualifying for the semi finals. They have young players who are all very good and they play good football. I think they can be a good team for a long time. They have a future.”Credit:
